This upgrade can easily be made in your own home in less than an hour. Moving over to a CD-RW enables you to do any number of things, such as making backups of all your important files and giving you the freedom to create your own CDs with MP3s or your Digital Camera Photographs. If you need more storage space, without the hassle of having to reinstall and re-configure a new Operating System (Windows 9x, ME, 2000, XP) and all your software such as, Word processor, ISP details for internet connection, E-mail accounts, Photo software, Web browser plugins and settings, etc. etc., then I have the answer. I will perform a migration of the entire contents of your old Hard Drive onto your new one allowing you to continue using your computer, as you always have, but with more space to play with. This upgrade can be made in your own home, but may take a few hours, depending on the speed of your processor. Occasionally this task has to be done back in my workshop. This assessment will be made on site. Modem upgrades can be a problem at times with compatibility issues. "In your home" upgrades mainly go without a hitch and can normaly be sorted within an hour, but there are times when I have to go back to the workshop. The faster V92 modem is what I always recommend. At the moment I do not install "broadband" units. For this please contact BT. Creative Labs, Sound Blaster has become the accepted standard system by most software producers and this is what I usually recommend. However, most of the latest Sound Cards are "Blaster" compatible these days, so the subject of incompatibility isn't normally a problem, but its best to check and I always do. Home installations can be completed inside an hour. Compatibility issues have always been a problem when it comes to graphics cards. Before I install any card I check out your system and then check with the card manufacturers and Microsoft to see if there are any conflict problems. I will then recommend the cards that I consider will work without any problems on your particular system. I rarely fit graphic cards on the first visit, but once the checks and decisions have been made, the cards I fit rarely cause problems. If a problem does occur, it is usually the result of an application (software) problem. Upgrading to a larger, or higher resolution monitor is often required to take advantage of a new video cards features and can be completed in minutes. Depending on your Motherboard, you may or may not have the option of upgrading to a faster CPU. After checking your board I can usually tell you your options. If you can`t upgrade with your original Motherboard you can always change it to one more suited to your specific requirements. Changing a Motherboard is a major operation and can be very costly. Because of this, I usually advise people to look for a completely new system - it could work out cheaper in the long-term. Upgrading a CPU (if the Motherboard allows) can be done inside an hour, in your own home. However, a visit to check things out is always first required. If your hard drive appears to never stop working there is a good chance that you simply need more RAM. The more RAM you have onboard your system, the smoother, and in some cases faster, it will run. The problem is that there are so many RAM configurations out there and you have to have a particular RAM type for a particular Motherboard. Therefor, you have to be careful to check with the Manual to get it right. Once the correct RAM is found, it can be installed inside 15 minutes. Its quite common for these things to simply "pop their clogs" and simply because they are now fairly cheap these days, in my opinion, replacement is the best option. Although considered more robust than CD drives, when this thing goes it can cause a lot of upset. I always recommend backing up all your important data regularly and, if your Hard Drive is over 5 years old, consider a migrational upgrade. This technology is as old as the computer and is the most common component to be replaced. However, this can be completed within half an hour. If you have a problem with your computer systems airflow there is a possibility that overheating could damage the CPU. Symptoms of this problem might be for the computer to become sluggish in operation, or the fan making more noise than usual, or stopping working altogether. CPU problems actually aren't all that common, but when they do occur it usually means the system unit has to come back to the workshop. Problems with Modems are often associated with the driver software. Replacement is often the best option. This can be done in your home in less than one hour. The biggest problem I have come across with these things are when people try to upgrade using a downloaded driver from the net. Some of these freelance sites offer drivers that are uploaded by subscribers who don't know, or don't post the correct information concerning the driver and when people try to install the driver, they just mess things up. My advice is to stick to the driver that came with the card or only use upgrade drivers from the manufacturers site. Bad RAM is not as common as it used to be now that production methods have been honed and refined. Replacement can be done within 15 minutes, but to diagnose it may take time because the effects of bad RAM can be construed as a software problem. |
